Co-incidentally myself & Nigel are on holiday this week 12th, so Adrian is nominally in charge of the kit, so any problems about washing to him. No doubt you'll find a suitable ref.
It's a new term for all the parents out there, but we at wfcHarborne carried on through the summer. Pleased to report that with the new season there's been a flurry of enquiries about playing. we had our first lady (except Jenny) last Monday, hope Penny returns with her mates.

Been a while since my last posting, so here's a few stats...
This year we have held 29 sessions, with a combined total of 325 attendances (15 max to 7 min) & a profit of over £80 going to AgeUK. Although I suggested the membership was technically closed, I can't really refuse anyone. At the last couple of sessions we've had 15 players turn up... great to see the interest in Walking Football is continuing.
So, we tried 7 versus 8 which was very crowded, bit like a pinball; the pace was still hectic, but had little flow to it as there was so little space. Last week we experimented with 3 sets of 5-a-side in a round robin of 6 matches meaning we all got 40 minutes playing time. Consensus of the Court Oak committee was that this was more preferable. Lot more space for proper football, although the extra competitive element meant that there was substantially more running that with have to be cracked down upon. For the record, the Blue vests ran out winners W D L F A Blue 3 1 0 9 2 Yellow 1 1 2 6 7 White 1 0 3 4 10 With so many regular players now, plus some coming back from injury, the membership is technically closed. I'll create a waiting list if needed, but its important if members anticipate being away for a time they let Steve know At last nights session, the minute I handed out 4 yellow vests vs 5 white a latecomer arrived. So what was deliberately chosen as the strongest side of 4 plus 1 was allowed to stand to provide the stiffest competition to the others as a measure of their prowess. The whites were in no way outplayed. A combination of keeping the ball, strong tackling & team spirit made it difficult for the yellows to break through. At the end it was about 8 - 6 to the yellows. I think this clearly shows the progress people have made over the past few months. An hours worth of steps is over 5,000 according to the Fitbit, which at 29 inches per step is only 2.25 miles. Heres the printout Max heart was 128, you can see how the pace increased towards the end in attempt to seal a greater victory. 462 calories it calculates.
The British Heart Foundation recommends a maximum heart rate based on age of : 220 less your age. See information sheet from BHF. Double-tap to edit. Record turnout of 14 for last nights session. A welcome back to 'Running Dave' and his grandson after a long lay-off.
7-a-side made it very crowded but there was some controlled short interpassing during a close fought game. We really didn't need the overhead heaters on full blast. For the record, White defeated Yellow, 9 or 10 to 6 or 7. Yes we have our first session of the New Year tonight at 7pm.
Expecting a good turnout tonight with a few newbies fulfilling their resolutions. Well attended competitive session of 6-a-side. Welcome to new members Colin & Jake, who quickly found their pace and made valuable contributions. Penalties for each side for defenders entering goal area, easily dispatched. The Yellow bibs won 8-6 (?) for the record in a close game with little space.
Sharp intake of breath just before the new star time as the side gate hadn't been opened. So relieved to see Steve come & open up. Turn out of 11 made for a very good game. Very close but the yellows just shaded it. Special mention to Rudy in goal for most of the time.Owing to some poorly attended sessions (Injury, Illness, Holidays) we have decide to start our sessions at the earlier time of 7pm each Monday. (The 7:45pm slot was historical as there was a wheelchair group expected before us that never materialised)
The earlier time frees up the slot after us for another group to have a normal 5-a-side session after us. We are welcome to stay & join them if any of us a up to it. I'll be emailing or texting all of the existing & past players to advise them of the new time. I've had the usual apology from QAC, but things are changing. with effect after the Bank Holiday, the Manager of the QAC Gym, Dave Farmer will be responsible for all Sportshall bookings and gym staff will then have the keys to access the hall, as he says "you should never be locked again", as the gym is always open and staffed in the evenings - even during holiday periods.
