Visited our new venue today with Jenny, our Partner from AgeUK. Here are the photos of the Sports Hall.
An early morning phone call from QAC tells me that someone is enquiring about booking a Walking Football slot. Karen tells them that Walking Football has been taken.. Turns out its Onnerley House.
Age UK have lots of lottery funds available to set up WF in all their areas following a very successful trial in Blackpool http://www.ageuk.org.uk/blackpool/our-services/walking-football/. After long discussion with Jenny we agree to take it forward in partnership subject to her boss's approval. Another conversation with Paul Murtagh at Beechcroft later.... Welcome to Felix James, weighing in at a whopping 9lb 13oz, first grandson to Nigel.
Thats a total of 7 boys so far (+2more on the way) as TP group grandchildren with a single girl to manage them. Unfortunately the time slot I wanted has been taken by a newly formed Wheelchair Rugby Club, I wish them well and shall go along to watch.
So once the later time was confirmed, the website & Facebook pages (Jimbo had to help me with the Twitter) were sent live, about 4pm.... By 5:07pm I'd had the first response... and the winner is.... Scrivvo - obviously theres not a lot of activity in the accountancy world on a Thursday afternoon. The website is up and ready after a few hiccups over the domain name and hosting.
I'll let it loose tonight, after I've created a Facebook page, and hope that the Monday nights at the Gym haven't been taken yet. This is the first entry on this new site, my attempt to set up a local walking football club. Once I'd become too short sighted to continue playing Saturday afternoon Birmingham AFA football back in the mid 1980's, I started evening 5-a-side with workmates , firstly at the Villa Leisure Centre, then at the Aston Powerleague.
In 2010, a newly discovered heart condition (I may have had it for years) forced my football retirement...., until last year. I then found Warley Strollers (based at Warley Rugby Club - Tat Bank Lane) and their superb 4G pitch. It was always the intention to set up locally... so with the opening of the QAC Sports Hall, here we are. |
