Origins -

I think I first became aware of Walking Football one Saturday morning watching BBC Breakfast Time with Mike Bushell. A quick search reveals that its June 2012 when Mike visited Bury FC who had started their community program in April 2012. Here's the link to the BBC News page.

Bury set it up to get 50+ year olds active in the Beautiful Game again at a different pace, bringing football right back down to basics. What is apparent at this early stage is the discipline required to keep control of a two moving objects (yourself & a football) at a measured pace.

FIFA, bless them, posted their own video version of the Bury project on 16 March 2013. By then it had caught the imagination of umpteen clubs & organisations around the country (and world).

It's very noticeable here how the competitive element in all of us speeds everything up. There's a lot of running & skipping going on.....

So then I guess I shelved the idea for a while....

3 August 2014 Barclays Bank showed the following advert and the light bulb moment happened. I thought that Harborne deserved its own Walking Football team. The Queen Alexandra College were building a new Sports Hall.
Time to get sorted & started.....
